POSITION PURPOSE: Responsible for a wide variety of calculations, GL posting, balancing, and verifying general ledger to obtain financial data for use in maintaining Credit Union accounting records and financials. This position will become familiar with various tasks and responsibilities of other accounting positions, i.e. account payable, wires, and/or other critical functions. Position may perform as back up to these duties as needed.  Work is performed under general supervision and requires professionalism, discretion and confidentiality. 

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Reconcile multiple accounts and ensure data is accurate and in compliance with standard accounting principles.
  • Prepare several accounting statements and/or reports. (Accuracy critical)
  • Assist with credit union investment portfolio- purchases, balancing, and recordkeeping.
  • Assist in the Month End close procedures as assigned.
  • Assists in the Credit Union's fixed asset portfolio. Prepares depreciation schedules and catalogs furniture, fixtures, and equipment.
  • Processes various journal entries as assigned.
  • Recognizes and resolves discrepancies in general ledger accounts.
  • Assist with accounts payable process.
  • Work with Controller and Senior Accountant to prepare for annual external audits-CPA and NCUA.
  • Frontline support.
  • Provides exceptional service to all Members, volunteers, internal employees and service providers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education:  Minimum associate degree or 2-year vocational certificate or equivalent accounting experience. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Practices
  • Proficient using computers and software including Symitar, Excel, Microsoft Word, 10-Key calculator and other office equipment.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to problem solve and research when necessary.
  • Knowledge of credit union products, services, policies, regulations and procedures.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills; be highly motivated and well organized.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to exercise tact and responsibility with handling confidential information
  • Intermediate mathematical and account skills.
